"AMAZING. After a visit Thursday and another on Friday, I took the mrs on Saturday. It was last minute and luckily there had been some cancellations. For starter I had the mushrooms in the most delicious creamy, garlic sauce. As I'm a lamb lover, I tackled the lamb shank but such a generous portion that I it beat me. The mrs had sweet and sour chicken. We couldn't believe the presentation. You could see that time had been spent during preperation. It was the first time I had experienced the wine at th Anchor. Again, fantastic. These must be the reasons why The Anchor Inn is the best pub in Worksop (In my opinio anyway). Guess what? I think a visit this week is in order! " -review by Matt Lloyd

"After one or two people singing the praises of your establishment we thought we should give it a try....how glad we are that we did. *Good telephone contact, pleasant and informative *We were greeted very well and professionally and as we had booked we were shown to a quiet table, perfect for us. *We had looked at the website, excellent by the way-full menu and prices so there were no surprises, I have to be honest here, when I saw the prices I did wonder about the quality of the meal.....but we were at the bar and ready to order. My husband ordered a starter but I didn't as I wasn't sure about portion size and I didn't want to spoil my main, so we ordered two fillet steaks, wnet back to our table and waited. *We did not have to wait long before the biggest prawn cocktail was delivered, wow! brown bread and butter, a fresh salad and sooooooo many prawns! He said it was perfect. *Now the main course: I could not believe my eyes! beautifully presented by a very happy waitress (always a good sign!). The size of the fillet was double that you would get anywhere else! char grilled which is my absolute favourite! home made chips, mushrooms, onion rings and lovely fresh salad, a little disappointed that there wasn't a salad dressing other than mayonnaise or salad cream but that is such a minor point. Any doubts about the quality of food went straight out the window, it was a superb piece of steak, tender as you would expect fillet to be but so much of it! I couldn't finish it and the waitress offered to wrap it in foil for me......what a nice touch! also we were asked several times if everything was ok for us.....how nice. *We paid our bill at the bar, I think my husband said it was just over £30 and that included the drinks, fabulous! We said our goodbyes to the very friendly staff saying we certainly will be back.......can't wait, going to try the rump steak next time! Thanks to everyone involved it was a great first experience and we will be spreading the word.......or maybe we shouldn't.....we might just keep shtumm and keep it to ourselves! Linda S. "we took a party of 7 to the anchor on monday evening to celebrate my daughters 30th birthday. We were taken to our tables with no delay.I knew i was having the 8oz sirloin having eaten here before so while the rest of our gang decided i went to the bar.I ordered the drinks and the landlady and one of the waitresses carried them to the table. We ordered our meals and didnt wait long before the meals were placed piping hot in front of us.The presentation of all seven meals was fabulous and it didnt take long before the delicious food was devoured.Angie (the landlady) told me it was her day off but as one of the chefs were on holiday her husband Mark was cooking and what a good job he did.Nothing was too much trouble for the staff management barstaff and the waitresses who were busy but never stopped smiling and asked if everything was alright.I have also eaten the carvery on a Sunday CANNOT BEAT IT! I keep passing the word about in whitwell and know of several people who have visited and enjoyed.Keep up the good hard work all of you and wiil see you in the near future many thanks Bev Austin " -review by beverley austin

"This place is just great. It is not a flashy restaurant but an Inn and It lives up to this title more than admirably. The atmosphere is stunning, the staff and owners are welcoming, helpful and friendly. The food is individually cooked to order and whilst the menu might look average on first sight, just wait until you try it. The starters all have a pleasant twist to them although should you wish to have a plain one you can. The meat is fabulous and cooked to perfection, as we went there twice on our visit to the area this seems to be a consistant fact. We never got to the puddings as even the boy was totally stuffed by the portions. Both myself and girlfriend would go so far as to say that the two evening meals that we had at the Anchor were some of the best that we have had for a long time and the prices to someone from London are unbelievable. IN SHORT YOU MUST TRY IT, YOU WILL NOT BE DISSAPOINTED!!!!!!!! " -review by Tony Ferguson

"

I visited the Anchor for the first time last week with my wife and 5 year old daughter. We sat in the lounge area although we didn't intend eating as we thought it would be better as we had a child with us. We were presented with a loyalty card which was explained and thought that a good idea. After walking past and looking at the very impressive looking plates of food we decided to have tea there. The steak was one of the best i've had, home cooked chips all the trimmings, I cleared my plate and good value for money, washed down with a GOOD pint of Stones. So impressed we returned last night just for a drink. We sat in the tap room as it was early and empty and we had our daughter with us again. Even better, an impressive display of previous beers on the wall and most, if not all from local breweries. I explained to a chap stood at the bar that I was a fan of blonde beers. He pointed me in the direction of Cavendish (Welbeck Brewery). It was one of the best pints i've had. Good variety, good atmosphere and quality food and drink. Hoping to go back this afternoon.

The Anchor Inn was recommended to me by a colleague and i thought why not...... im so glad that i did!! My husband and I came for a birthday treat and couldnt decide what to have so chose 3 starters between us.... big mistake!! the portions are HUGE!! Then the main courses appeared..... OMG I never knew plates could be that big!! Lets say the doggie bag home was enough to feed a small family lol. I would thoroughly recommend the Anchor Inn to all my friends and this is now the pub of choice for an evening out.... the In Laws love it nearly as much as we do xx
